Summer is approaching! It is only in due time that we will be baking in the summer sun! But first let’s celebrate all those Dads & Grads who have worked hard all year. Why not treat them to a delicious meal with us? Or a Johnny’s Gift Card?

8The week of the 23rd, Chef Evan will be unveiling his summer menu changes. We’ve had a sneak preview and can say with confidence that you will not be disappointed. In addition we have found some wonderful new white wines from around the world to add to the list which are sure to cool you off.

Fun Food Fact: Tomatoes

97 The tomato is the fruit of a vine native to South America. By the time European explorers arrived in the New World, the tomato had made its way up into Central America and Mexico. Some tomato advocates claim the fruit has aphrodisiac powers and, in fact, the French called them pommes d’amour, meaning “love apples.” The tomato plant is rich in Lycopene, an antioxidant which purportedly fights the free radicals that can interfere with normal cell growth and activity. These free radicals can potentially lead to cancer, heart disease and premature aging. So eat up and save your health in the long run!

Featured Recipe: Baked Tomatoes

15 Vine-Ripened Tomatoes
1/2 cup Basil
1/4 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Sea Salt
Pepper

Method:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Half tomatoes and discard seeds. In a food processor blend basil, garlic, olive oil, sea salt, and pepper. Place tomatoes, cut side up, in a large baking dish. Spoon garlic mixture into each tomato half. Bake for 30-40 minutes. ENJOY!!!
